Review - Acer Aspire E5-553-T4PT Notebook (NX.GESSI.003)( APU Quad Core A10/4 GB RAM/1 TB HDD/Windows 10)

I had taken a long pause from blogging and i have been feeling guilty all this while. So here I am back without much ado.

Today I am going to review the following laptop:

Acer Aspire E5-553-T4PT Notebook (NX.GESSI.003) (APU Quad Core A10/4 GB RAM/1 TB HDD/Windows 10)

I bought this from Amazon India at the following url: http://amzn.to/2i7ZSjc. It is also  available on Flipkart at this url: Acer E5-553-T4PT

By the way, I am not associated with either AMD or Acer India. This is my independent, unbiased review.

Why I started with a review of this laptop and the initial few things that prompted me to write this review are:
1) Incorrect Specifications on the product page at Amazon India
2) Lack of the details of this model on Acer website
3) Incredible performance of this laptop (especially at this pricepoint)

The sales package contains the following:
1) Aspire E5-553-T4PT Notebook with Lithium Ion Battery
2) AC Adapter
3) No OS CD (Why Acer could you not have provided a restore OS CD)
4) No Laptop Bag (I dont crave for it as it is anyways at a very economical pricepoint)

This laptop carries the model no - E5-553-T4PT & Part Number: NX.GESSI.003.

So let me address the first things first. I will start with the specifications and for reference the correct Data sheet for this laptop is http://www.acer.com/datasheets/2016/4876/E5-553/NX.GESSI.003.html.

Processor - AMD APU Quad Core A10 9600P (this is a 7th Gen AMD processor, just launched in mid 2016)
RAM - 4 GB DDR4 RAM (yes yes its a DDR4 RAM! Yaay)
OS - 64 bit Windows 10 Operating System (yes legit OS)
HDD - 1 TB HDD (its a 5400 rpm laptop drive)
Optical Drive - Optical drive 8x DVD R/W (provides extra bay to replace the same with an additional HDD)
Graphics - AMD integrated graphics - Radeon R5 Graphics
Display - 15.6 inch Display 1366x768 WXGA resolution (Yes it is nothing to write home about, but still looks good)
USB Type C port -  Yes it is there (i have not seen any laptop at this price point provide this port)
Price - Approximately INR 25000/- (cant think of all the features provided by any brand at this price in India)
Warranty - On registering on Acer India website got an offer to upgrade the existing carry in warranty to the following:
1) New warranty upgrade to Accidental Damage Protection (ADP)
2) Free upgrade to 2nd and 3rd year warranty
All the above at INR 900/- inclusive of all taxes, extra payment by me (this is mind blowing. Anything like this for HP/Dell/Lenovo would have easily costed me INR 5000/- to 10,000/-.
Now moving on to details.

1) Looks - The laptop looks great. It has a good textured laptop lid and looks nicely painted. It gives the look of a metal matte finishing. It however is plain plastic with some clever finishing to give that look. The touch pad is nice and large and has a neat aluminum like border to it which looks awesome. The power key is flush with the laptop buttons and not separate so gives a feeling of continuity.  I must say that I am impressed with the finish at this price point. Nothing at all to complain about. I would rate it at a healthy 4 on 5 on Looks overall.

2) Form factor - The laptop is not really wieldy as it is a massive 15.6 inches. It weighs in at around 2.23Kgs, which is certainly a lot considering my other laptop is a mac book air and weighs less than half of this. So overall not a great portable machine. I would give it 3 out of 5 on Form factor.

3) Specifications - The spcifications of this laptop are stellar at this price.
Processor - AMD APU Quad Core A10 9600P (this is a 7th Gen AMD processor, just launched in mid 2016)
RAM - 4 GB DDR4 RAM (yes yes its a DDR4 RAM! Yaay)
OS - 64 bit Windows 10 Home Operating System (yes legit OS)
HDD - 1 TB HDD (its a 5400 rpm laptop drive)
Optical Drive - Optical drive 8x DVD R/W (provides extra bay to replace the same with an additional HDD)
Graphics - AMD integrated graphics - Radeon R5 Graphics
Display - 15.6 inch Display 1366x768 WXGA resolution (Yes it is nothing to write home about, but still looks good)
USB Type C port -  Yes it is there (I have not seen any laptop at this price point provide this port)
4) Performance - The laptop being a great performer, right from the word go. I have seen
a) Display - The display resolution is 1366x768 which is nothing stellar. But it is still a good quality display.
It has decent view angles. Nothing that i can find as a flaw till now.
b) Processor - This is where the real meat is. I have two other Windows laptop at home. One is an ASUS laptop with 4th Gen core i3 processor and a Lenovo Ultrabook with 3rd Gen Core i7 processor. You can all google and look at all benchmarks yourself. I am more interested in day to day operations of laptop and how it will perform on the ground. Needless to say that a good processor coupled with 4 GB DDR4 RAM it is a great performer. My several installations, data copying etc all went through without a hassle. Also, another thing I noticed that the more things I threw at it simultaneously, the smoother it performed. I have never seen such a thing from any Intel processor. I can safely assume that in real world it will put any Intel core i5 - 5th gen processor to shame in real world performance. So in essence a great laptop for any daily work like MS Office suite or browsing upto 50 tabs in firefox/chrome/edge or viewing videos while downloading going on simultaneously. This laptop will not break a sweat in any of this. This is just too good at Multi-tasking, infact it is made for multitasking.
c) Keyboard - This has got a full keyboard with a dedicated Num pad. I think this will come in handy for all gamers. It is a pleasure to use. The keys have adequate travel and provide good feedback. I think this is a great keyboard to have and should last long.
d) Upgradability - This is the forte of this laptop. It has RAM upgradabilty to 32 GB. Also since it has a DVD drive, the same can be removed to add another 1 TB of Hybrid or simple HDD. This is something my Lenovo U410 didnot have. I love this fact. Also the fact that these guys have provided the latest RAM and latest Legit OS at this price point is just superb. Both being upgradable to future versions.
e) Speakers - One word - Awesome! Nice, loud and clear. Believe me the speakers are so loud that you would not need to connect a bluetooth speaker. Enough for home use. Outside no laptop speaker is loud enough. Just in love with the loudness and clarity.

Also, if this all was not enough, then AMD offers one free game on the Steam platform. This offer is redeemable before 31st December 2016. You can read more about the same here: https://www.amd4u.com/amdgamepromo/

5) Conclusion - This is a great value for money machine which gives great performance, Latest Windows OS - Legit OS, Latest DDR4 RAM, DVD Drive which can easily be upgraded to extend the overall HDD space to 2 TB. At this price point this ticks all the right boxes but for the portability. I will rate it 4 on 5 overall for its Value & Performance.

As usual you test, you decide!!
